Do you use any e-services for an authority? If you do, you will be getting only digital mail from many authorities as of January 2026. The vehicle tax bills sent by Traficom may also be delivered as a Suomi.fi message if they previously came by paper mail.

At the start of 2026, an increasing number of Finnish people will only receive digital mail from authorities. When you identify yourself in a public administration e-service – such as Traficom’s My e-Services – you will receive only digital mail also from many other authorities.

A digital mailbox in Suomi.fi Messages will be opened for you automatically, and you’ll receive a notification about it. During activation, you can, if you wish, add your email address so that you’ll receive a notification in the future when a new message from an authority arrives in Suomi.fi Messages. You’ll receive mail there from many authorities—not just from the one whose service you used to log in. Suomi.fi Messages replace paper mail, and you will no longer receive a paper letter to your home about the same matter.

The delivery method for your vehicle tax bill may change

  • If you previously received your vehicle tax notice from Traficom by paper mail, you’ll now receive it as a Suomi.fi message.
  • If you’ve opted for an e-invoice, nothing changes—you’ll continue to receive the vehicle tax notice directly in your online bank.
  • If you use OmaPosti or KIVRA, your vehicle tax notices will continue to be delivered to you in those services.

You can opt for paper mail

If you still want to receive official mail on paper, you can select paper mail in the Suomi.fi Messages settings. The choice remains in effect for six months at a time. If you log back into an e-service after six months, Suomi.fi Messages will be automatically re-enabled.

The change does not apply to everyone

If you don’t use any authorities’ e-services, you will continue to receive official mail on paper. The switch to digital post also doesn’t apply to minors or to people who have a guardian or a guardianship power of attorney.
