The City of Savonlinna and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) have concluded a contract with Budapest Aircraft Service Ltd., aka BASe Airlines Ltd, on the provision of scheduled air services between Helsinki and Savonlinna from 13 November 2023 to 19 December 2025.
BASe Airlines won the public tendering procedure for the procurement of scheduled air services between Helsinki and Savonlinna. The contract negotiations have now been concluded and the airline will commence scheduled flights on 13 November 2023. The current interim contract with NyxAir OÜ for scheduled air services between Helsinki and Savonlinna will terminate on 5 October 2023.
“The change of flight operator results in a break in air services for approximately five weeks, which is an annoying setback. This causes harm to consumers, and many have to find an alternative means to travel between Savonlinna and Helsinki for the time being. Our contract with BASe Airlines continues until the end of 2025, and we are in an excellent position to develop air traffic services in the long term,” says Juha Turtiainen, Acting Director of Economic Development of the City of Savonlinna.
The costs of the procurement will be borne by the City of Savonlinna and the state. The primary aim of the procurement of scheduled air services is to ensure the transport connections necessary for the trade and industry of Savonlinna.
