The Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi), the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) and certain functions of the Finnish Transport Agency will merge to form the new Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom on 1 January 2019.
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom will be an authority serving people and businesses in licence, registration and approval matters. The Agency will promote the transport system and safety of traffic and ensure that everyone in Finland has access to high-quality and secure communications connections and services.
It will also monitor and promote the transport and communications markets and services. The new Agency will boost digitalisation by means of, for example, experiments in automation and robotics, which create new businesses and services. The Agency will also support sustainable development.
The functions and services of the merging organisations will continue without interruption and will be further developed. The reform responds to the changes in the operating environment paying even more attention to the customers’ needs.
The number of employees at the Agency will be around 900 at 15 locations in Finland. The Ministry of Transport and Communications is expected to appoint the new Director-General of the Agency by the end of November.
