The Government has appointed LLM Jarkko Saarimäki as the new Director-General of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom for a five-year term starting on 20 December 2023.

In December 2023, Jarkko Saarimäki will move to the position of Director-General of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency from the position of Director-General of the Service Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Before the Ministry, Saarimäki worked at Traficom as the Director of Transport System Services and the National Cyber Security Centre Finland. Previously, he has worked as a lawyer and as the Director of the National Cyber Security Centre Finland at Traficom, as well as a lawyer at a law firm.
“Our most important task at the agency is to ensure the functionality, safety and sustainability of transport and communications in Finland. Cyber security is related to all of this, as is international influencing”, Saarimäki says. “I am excited and grateful that I get to work with competent and committed Traficom members, as well as our stakeholders and partners. Together, we can respond to changes in the operational environment and build the future innovatively and efficiently.”
