The Government appointed Kirsi Karlamaa, M.Sc. (Tech.), as Director-General of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom for a five-year term. The Agency starts its operations on 1 January 2019.
The Transport and Communications Agency is a merger of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA), Transport Safety Agency (Trafi), and certain functions of the Transport Agency. The new agency brings together the expertise of the merging organisations and is more capable of responding to changes in the operating environment and customers’ needs: climate change, digitalisation and rapid technological development affect the demands on transport and communications, too.
Kirsi Karlamaa is currently working as Director-General of FICORA. She has worked for FICORA since 2000 and held several management positions during that time, including Director of Spectrum Management and Director of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC-FI).
“In the Transport and Communications Agency, we ensure the quality and safety of transport and communications in Finland. We create collaborative networks and enable experiments, which generate business and new services for the benefit of citizens and society. I am excited to work with such a talented group of professionals," Karlamaa says.
