Hydrographers in the Nordic Countries are working together to assess the needs of customers for hydrography services and will produce a questionnaire for their customers. Each country will implement the survey separately, but the results will be analysed together. The matter was decided at the meeting of the Nordic Hydrographic Commission held in connection with the Nordic Hydrographic Commission Conference hosted by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom in Helsinki.

Other topics at the meeting included exchange of information on scientific and technical development in the field in different countries, analysing and agreeing on possibilities for cooperation, and the promotion of the work of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) from the Nordic point of view.

Nordic hydrographers have held meetings already since 1929

The Nordic Hydrographic Commission Conference was held in Helsinki on 9 - 11 April, 2019.

One part of the conference was the meeting of the Nordic Hydrographic Commission, with delegations representing all the Nordic Countries, led by their national hydrographers. Finland has held the presidency of the Commission in the 2018-2019 term and at the end of the meeting, the presidency was handed over to Iceland.

The Nordic Hydrographic Commission has met since 1929 and this year's meeting was the 63rd in succession.
