Registers maintained by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom are mainly public. You can restrict the disclosure of your own data depending on the intended use of the data. In practice, this means that you can choose the purposes for which you do not want your data to be disclosed.

Hide your address in public query services

If you do not want your address to be available in SMS or online services, for example, you can prohibit the disclosure of your data as individual disclosures. Such non-disclosure only applies to addresses. Your name and the details of your vehicles, for example, still appear in the services.

Non-disclosure for direct marketing

If you do not want to receive marketing messages, including reminders about your next scheduled inspection from vehicle inspection companies, you can prohibit the disclosure of your personal data for direct marketing.

Non-disclosure for transport-related purposes

You can prohibit the disclosure of your personal data for transport-related purposes. If you do that, your data will not necessarily be available when you visit car dealerships and service establishments.  Companies will not be able to keep their customer registers up to date, which means that you will need to update your information yourself.

Commercial transport operators can prohibit disclosure of data in an open interface

You may prohibit the disclosure of your data in an open interface if you have a licence for passenger or goods transport or a taxi transport licence.

Non-disclosure for development and innovation purposes

You can also prohibit the disclosure of your data for development and innovation purposes. Traficom’s register data can be used, for example, for development and innovation activities aiming at developing the transport system and providing related services.

Manage your prohibitions in My e-Services

You can view, add and delete prohibitions to disclose data in Traficom's My e-Services under ‘Omat tiedot’ (only available in Finnish and Swedish). You need to log in to use the service. If you have prohibited the disclosure of your data for all above-mentioned purposes, Traficom does not disclose your personal data as specified by the non-disclosure to others than authorities and other parties responsible for statutory duties.

Disclosure of data to other authorities and parties responsible for statutory duties cannot be restricted

Traficom may disclose data to another authority or other party performing a statutory duty to the extent that is necessary for the performance of the duty, without being impeded by confidentiality rules. It is not possible to prohibit the disclosure of data for the performance of statutory duties.
