Application for dispensation to begin or continue seagoing service

You will need the following appendices to your application:

• medical certificate for seafarers (less than 3 months old, all three pages)

If necessary, you should also include for example: 

• Medical reports, regarding the illness requiring dispensation
• Attending physician’s statement
• Employer’s statement

Or the documents requested in the instructions letter attached to the previous decision.

We recommend submitting the documents as PDF files and as one file per topic. All documents must be clearly legible. 

Decision on dispensation 120 €. Payment is made in connection with the application.

Once we receive your application, we will enter it in our case management system for processing. After this, we will request an opinion from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health in accordance with the Act on Medical Fitness Examinations of Seafarers (1171/2010). After receiving the opinion, we will make a decision on your application for a dispensation.

Applications are processed in the order they are received. The processing time is approximately two months.

If your application is missing required information or if the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health requires additional information to issue an opinion to Traficom, we will request you to submit the information needed. Submit the required information and documents by the deadline or request for more time before the deadline.

To ensure a speedy and smooth process, we will send you the decision by secure email if you have permitted this on your application. In this case, we will not send you a paper copy of the decision unless you specifically request one.

If you fail to submit the required additional information or do not meet the conditions for dispensation, you will not be granted a dispensation.
