When your taxi driving licence expires, you must apply for its renewal.
You can renew your taxi driving licence if:
- you are not subject to a driving ban
- you meet all Group 2 requirements for fitness to drive
- you do not have any entries in the criminal records or the register of fines that prevent the issuing of the licence.
You cannot be issued a taxi driving licence if you do not meet the requirements listed above or you have been found guilty of any of the following offences over the past five years according to the criminal records or the past three years according to the register of fines:
- causing a serious traffic hazard, driving while intoxicated, driving while seriously intoxicated or driving a vehicle without a licence
- sexually offensive act, sex offence, homicide or bodily injury, offence against personal liberty, property offence, robbery, receiving and money laundering offence or narcotics offence and you have been sentenced to conditional or unconditional imprisonment for the offence
- you have been sentenced to a fine for an offence listed in point 2 above and the act shows that you are manifestly unfit to act as a taxi driver
- you have been found guilty of an offence similar to the offences listed in points 1–2 outside Finland and the act has been entered into the criminal records
- you have been found guilty of an offence similar to the offences listed in sections 1–2 outside Finland and the act has been entered into the register of fines and shows that you are manifestly unfit to act as a taxi driver.

Renew your taxi driving licence at Ajovarma offices
Include the following documents in your application:
- a medical report if you are aged 45 or over or you will turn 45 during the validity of your current licence or
- a comprehensive medical report if you are aged 68 or you will turn 68 during the validity of your current licence.
Please note: You do not need to provide a medical report if you are aged under 45 when your current licence expires or you have during the past five years prior to the expiry of your licence provided to the police a medical report required on the basis of age from those who hold a right to drive in group 2 or presented a medical report to upgrade your right to drive to Group 2, to renew your right to drive in Group 2 or to obtain a driving instructor’s licence.
- If you do not have a Finnish driving licence, you must present a driving licence issued in another EU/EEA country.
- If you wish, you can provide a new photograph for the licence. You can also use a photograph kept in the driving licence register or the photograph on your valid passport or personal identity card.
Decisions on issuing taxi driving licences are made by Traficom. If your application is approved, the licence will be sent to you by post within approximately three weeks.
Validity of the licence
The renewed taxi driving licence is valid for five or two years from the expiry date of your current licence, if you submit your renewal licence no more than six months before the expiry of your current licence.
If you no longer meet the taxi driver’s health requirements or you are found guilty of an offence preventing the issuing of a taxi driving licence during its validity, the police may withdraw your licence for a fixed period, temporarily or until further notice
