Traficom maintains an electronic Transport Register, which contains information on means of transport, such as vehicles, transport operator permits and transport-related personal licences. The Transport Register is mainly public and the information in the register can be disclosed for the needs of authorities, companies, and private individuals. On this website, you can find more detailed instructions on how to utilise the Transport Register in the role of a service provider.

Disclosure of data from the Transport Register

The Transport Register discloses information as an individual release of public data. In such a case, the request is based on a specific identifier, such as a registration number, and the data is provided without the requesting party needing to identify themselves or indicate the purpose of use. In addition, information is disclosed for transport-related purposes, such as for providing and developing transport services and performing statutory duties. For more information, visit the Disclosure of Data website. Non-disclosure of personal information may restrict the disclosure of data.

Service providers produce services for private individuals and companies based on data from the Transport Register. On the Service Providers website, you can find a list of service providers who regularly receive data from the Transport Register for providing their services. If you want to make use of the information yourself or only need it for your own organisation’s use, if you wish, you can introduce a service that utilises Transport Register data by contacting the service providers directly.

General information on becoming a service provider

Traficom regularly discloses information from the Transport Register to service providers for the purpose of providing services on the basis of an agreement or a data permit. With the agreement or data permit, the service provider becomes a data recipient. With regard to information disclosed from the Transport Register, the recipient acts as the controller referred to in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDRP) and is independently responsible for its obligations as the controller.

The Service Provider shall provide Traficom with a service description to describe its services that utilise the Transport Register data. Traficom uses the service description to assess whether the purpose of the use of the data meets the statutory requirements. All the data disclosed must be necessary for the specified purpose of use. All processing of Transport Register data shall be implemented in such a way that it does not pose a threat to the data subjects’ privacy, interests or rights.

For more information on becoming a service provider, see below.

Application-to-application interface of the Transport Register

From the application-to-application interface, vehicle data is retrieved as individual queries based on the registration number or VIN. The right to drive and professional qualification data is retrieved directly from the Transport Register database using a personal identity code. By using an application-to-application interface, the service provider may implement a service for disclosing public information as individual releases or a service produced for businesses.

Data extraction from the Transport Register

If your company wishes to utilise data extraction from the Transport Register for providing a statistical and market information service or a service related to the sale of spare parts or in the operations of a debt collection agency, please read more detailed instructions on the subject
