Infrastructure managers

Infrastructure managers are responsible for the railway infrastructure they manage, i.e. private sidings or tracks belonging to the state-owned railway network. Infrastructure managers must use a safety management system to manage their activities and the use of their infrastructure and apply for a safety authorisation from Traficom. Instead of applying for a safety authorisation, some private sidings may opt for a ‘notification procedure’ and notify their operations to Traficom. Infrastructure managers are also required to report to Traficom any accidents and incidents on their infrastructure and ensure preparedness on the infrastructure they manage. Infrastructure managers are also required to apply for an authorisation for placing in service infrastructure when building new tracks and improving or modernising existing tracks, for example.
