Urban rail transport include the metro and tram. Traficom shall be notified of a transport operation on metro or tram network and infrastructure management of a metro or tram network. Traficom is responsible for overseeing the safety of urban rail transport as well as for operations regarding railways.
Responsibility for the safety of urban rail transport lies with the operator. In order for Traficom to ensure the safe operation, an operator is required to have a safety management system in place.
The notification procedure
The operator shall make a written notice to Traficom of the activities it is operating,
- Both the infrastructure manager and the urban rail transport operator shall make the notification.
- The notification of the urban rail transport operation shall be made no later than three months before the start of operations.
- Traficom verifies that the notification received has all the required information.
- In urban rail transport, the safety management system is not verified in advance, but its compliance is verified through, for example, audits.
