Rail transport operators
Traficom issues operating licences to railway undertakings, meaning railway operators whose principal business is to provide transport services by rail. In addition to an operating licence, railway undertakings and other railway operators need a safety certificate issued by Traficom to operate transport services on the railway network or to conduct shunting operations. The main criterion for obtaining a safety certificate is an efficient safety management system. Other key tasks of railway operators include risk assessment and management, monitoring and the development of safety culture. Operators must also report to Traficom any accidents and incidents they observe and ensure preparedness in their activities.
