Transport accessibility

An accessible transport system consists of accessible transport infrastructure and services as well as accessible travel and journey information. Travel chains are accessible when passengers can plan their journeys and travel smoothly and safely despite their special needs and have access to information on their travel chains, including interchanges and transfers, timetables and service disruptions, in an accessible format.

Traficom promotes the accessibility of the transport system and travel chains as part of its wide range of duties.

Information obligations concerning accessibility of passenger transport services

Traficom monitors compliance with the information obligations imposed by the Act on Transport Services. The Act requires providers of passenger transport services to give passengers information about the accessibility of their services. Essential information on accessibility must also be made available via interfaces for use by other operators.

Traficom monitors the realisation of the rights of air, rail, ship, bus and coach passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility in accordance with the EU regulations on passenger rights

Traficom monitors taxi transport operators and services. See our instructions for taxi passengers. You can report issues with the taxi journeys of passengers with a disability or reduced mobility.

Parking card and tax exemption for people with reduced mobility

Via Traficom’s e-Services, you can apply for a parking card for people with reduced mobility and an exemption from the basic component of vehicle tax based on the parking card.

Regulations issued by Traficom guide the technical requirements for means of transport, such as accessible taxi cars and passenger ships. In addition Traficom has published guides and reports to improve transport accessibility.

Traficom promotes the accessibility of the transport system through national and regional transport system planning. As part of its transport system analyses, Traficom publishes situational pictures of the accessibility of transport services and the key development needs identified.
