Shipping companies shall apply for an exception for the ship’s medical store if the ship’s area of operation deviates from the current vessel category’s area of operation.
According to section 13 of the Act on Ships' Medical Stores, upon application and for special reasons, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency may, in individual cases, grant exceptions to the provisions on medical store contents referred to in section 6, subsection 1, provided that the exception does not substantially undermine the crew's possibility to receive appropriate first aid and health care on board the vessel.
Please attach to the application the following documents:
- Name of applicant and name of vessel
- Minimum Safe Manning Document or number of crew members and possible passengers
- Current ship's medical store category and the ship's medical store category that is applied for
- Journey duration
- Journey departure location and destination
- Vessel’s estimated route, longest distance to the nearest port in nautical miles during route
- Time period for which the exception for the ship’s medical store is applied for
