Check the documents

The application must include the following attachments:

  • A copy of the ship’s charter party.
  •  Proof that the charterer of the ship meets the conditions laid down in chapter 1, section 1 b of the Maritime Code. In addition to this, the technical and commercial management and operation of the ship and the management of the crew must be explained and proven with the necessary attachments.
  • A written commitment provided by the ship’s charterer confirming that they assume responsibility for all the obligations resulting from the ship being transferred under the Finnish flag for a fixed period.
  • Proof of the ship’s owner. This can be an extract from the ship’s ownership register, for example.
  • Written consent from the ship’s owner and every mortgagee and pledgee for the registration of the ship in the Transport Register or the register of ships maintained by the State Department of Åland for a fixed period.
  • A certificate or other official account provided by the registering authority of the country in which the ownership of the ship is registered that the ship can sail under the Finnish flag during the period in which it is registered in the Transport Register or the register of ships maintained by the State Department of Åland for a fixed period.
  • An extract from the ship’s ownership register that is no more than 14 days old.
