Digitalization of the maritime sector

e-Navigation and S-100 are key concepts in the development of the maritime sector, with the aim to improve safety, efficiency and environmental friendliness of shipping by utilising digital technology and standardized exchange of information.

Official electronic nautical charts (S-57 ENC) and approved electronic chart tools (ECDIS) are already widely used on ships. With digitalization of the maritime sector, a wider variety of digital products can be utilized on bridge systems than before.

Digitalization requires a new kind of cooperation between data producers and harmonization of information. Traficom nationally coordinates the development work on S-100 products related to e-Navigation, which involves several different actors.
