Liability insurance for railway undertakings

Guideline

Adequate liability insurance is one of the requirements for granting a safety certificate and an operating licence. Liability insurance is regulated by section 182 of the Rail Transport Act (1302/2018), which concerns the obligation to take out insurance. These guidelines help railway operators and Traficom assess the adequacy of liability insurance.

Please note: These guidelines are outdated with regard to operating licences. Matters concerning operating licences are covered by the regulation on railway undertaking operating licences (TRAFICOM/468998/03.04.02.00/2023).
