  • Interference affecting mobile communications and satellite navigation services continues in Finland

In spring 2026, interference affecting satellite navigation (GNSS) and mobile networks, as well as related observations recorded by Traficom, have increased. GNSS interference is observed particularly in aviation around the clock in southern and central Finland. Disruptions to mobile communications have a localised impact in south-eastern Finland near the eastern border, and disturbances may also occur during the daytime. Traficom has submitted new interference reports concerning GNSS and mobile networks to Russia.

  • Traficom service fees to increase from 1 January 2026

Service fees charged by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom will increase as of 1 January 2026. The increases will apply, for example, to consumer service fees and supervision fees charged to organisations. Fee increases will mainly range from approximately 10 to 20 per cent. Prices will increase in the areas of aviation, maritime, road and rail transport, as well as for domain name and frequency fees.

  • Finland moves to high-definition broadcasting next week – SD transmissions to end on 30 June

    , updated at 7:34

Standard definition (SD) television broadcasts will be discontinued on 30 June 2025. From then on, all TV channels will be available exclusively in high definition (HD). The vast majority of Finnish households are already equipped to receive HD broadcasts. Operators in the television sector encourage people to check whether their own devices, and those of their friends and family, are HD compatible to ensure continued access to television after the change.
