Television programming licences available for application for the ten-year period beginning in 2027
, updated at 13:58Programming licences for licensed television broadcasting for the period 11 January 2027–10 January 2037 are now open for application. The application round ends on 15 June 2026.
Fibre connections are now spreading in Finland faster than in other Nordic and Baltic countries
In 2024, the availability of fibre connections for households in the Nordic and Baltic countries ranged from 62 to 98 percent. In Finland fibre availability was 68 percent. Finland has long lagged behind the comparison countries, but growth in recent years has been clearly the strongest. In all countries, connections implemented with fibre already account for at least half of all broadband subscriptions in use. The data comes from statistics compiled jointly by the authorities responsible for telecommunications statistics.
Finland moves to high-definition broadcasting next week – SD transmissions to end on 30 June
, updated at 7:34Standard definition (SD) television broadcasts will be discontinued on 30 June 2025. From then on, all TV channels will be available exclusively in high definition (HD). The vast majority of Finnish households are already equipped to receive HD broadcasts. Operators in the television sector encourage people to check whether their own devices, and those of their friends and family, are HD compatible to ensure continued access to television after the change.
