  • New national transport forecasts extend up to 2060

    The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has drawn up new national transport forecasts for road, rail and maritime transport. Transport forecasts are needed for national transport system planning and assessing the impacts of transport system development measures. The time scale of the prepared transport forecasts extends up to 2060.

  • Traficom’s year 2022: The importance of reliable transport and communications, preparedness and cyber security continued to grow

    In 2022, we continued our work of ensuring reliable, safe and secure transport and communications connections and services in Finland. The global political situation increased the importance of operational reliability and preparedness and contributed to the rising cyber security threat level. During the year, we granted approximately EUR 300 million of government support, which has far-reaching impacts on Finnish society. In terms of our internal efforts, we stabilised our operating methods and continued to develop our operations. Read more from the Traficom’s year 2022 publication.

  • New Act on the Transport of Dangerous Goods enters into force on 1 September 2023 – brings new obligations for operators

    The new Act on the Transport of Dangerous Goods enters into force on 1 September 2023. The aim is to clarify the responsibilities regarding transport of dangerous goods, improve transport safety and enhance monitoring. The Act includes new approval and supervision duties for the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom and introduces requirements for operators of transport of dangerous goods in all transport modes. These requirements include drafting an internal emergency plan for temporary places of storage and submitting a notification of a safety advisor.
