Replacing watercraft engines using the e-services

Are you replacing the engine of your boat? This is how you submit a notification of engine replacement online.

Do the following

  • Step 1

    Scan or photograph the documents

Check that you have a deed of transfer identifying the engine as well as the details of the seller and the buyer.

If you have bought a new engine, check that you have its declaration of conformity. You can usually find the declaration of conformity in between the user’s manual.

Note, if you change CE-marked boats technical data, you need to present a new declaration of conformity with documents.

Scan or photograph the documents before you start filling in the notification.

  • Step 2

Prepare to fill in a number of technical specifications of the watercraft and its engine

You can have a look at the registration form in advance to familiarise yourself with the required information. All information marked with an asterisk (*) on this form is also mandatory when you submit the notification using the e-services. Some of the data may have been filled in before in your watercraft's information. In case of an old boat, however, the data may be very deficient.

  • Step 3

    Log in to our e-services

Identification is required to use the service. You must be aged 15 or over.

  • Step 4

    Select the service

Select on the list the watercraft whose engine you wish replace. Select the Change the technical specifications of a watercraft service.

  • Step 5

    Fill in the information

Fill in the missing technical specifications of a watercraft.

On the Check engine data page, you should first remove the current engine of the watercraft before adding the new one.

You should start by searching for the engine by entering its identification number and make.

Check that the serial number format is correct. Different makes have different serial number formats. Having the correct engine serial number is important to make sure that the system can find the information if the engine has already been registered or if the manufacturer has submitted an advance notification. If the system finds the engine, you need not enter all of its data manually.

  • Step 6

    Include the required attachments

Once you have added the engine specifications, you can upload the engine's bill of sale or deed of transfer and any declaration of conformity to the system.

You must attach all required documents directly in the service, as they cannot be submitted afterwards. You can save the application as incomplete, scan or photograph the documents, and continue processing your application later. You can find your incomplete application under My Activities at the top of the page for two weeks.

  • Step 7

    Acknowledge the changes

On the last page you will receive a message stating that your notification is being processed. On this page, you can print a receipt. The replacement is free of charge.

The processing time of a notification is around one to two weeks. A new registration certificate will be mailed to your home address once the replacement of engine has been registered.

However, you may use the new engine in your watercraft already before the registration certificate reaches you. If necessary, the authorities can check the system to see that the watercraft has been registered and that the certificate is being issued. It is, however, a good idea to always keep the bill of sale in the watercraft when using it.
