Apply for a domestic goods transport licence for a new vehicle

A domestic goods transport licence can only be granted if the applicant has at least one valid domestic goods transport licence when the application is instituted, and the applicant or the applicant’s transport manager only has a professional competence that entitles them to domestic transport. The licence is always granted in the form of a goods transport licence, if the applicant has the professional competence required for a goods transport licence. Domestic goods transport licences will expire by 1 July 2028 at the latest.

Do the following:

  • Step 1
  • Step 2

Apply for a domestic goods transport licence for a new vehicle

You can apply for a domestic goods transport licence for a new vehicle online in My e-Services under the section road traffic transport licences.

In matters related to transport operations, a natural person selects ‘Personal services’, while a legal person should choose ‘Acting on behalf of a company/an organisation’. This means that a natural person as an applicant or a licence holder always acts as an individual, not as a representative of their company operating under a business name. Only a person with the right to represent the transport company either with an authorisation or without a separate authorisation based on their role recorded in the Finnish Trade Register may act on behalf of a company in the service.

As a rule, an application for additional licences must include a report on the applicant’s financial standing as an attachment.

The application fee of EUR 290 is paid in the service. The payment will not be returned even if the permit is denied or the application is cancelled.

  • Step 3

You will receive the licence by post

You will receive the licence decision and its attachments by post within approximately 3 weeks of submitting the application. Requests for information and clarifications concerning the application affect the total processing time.

You can print out and fill in the licence application form and send it with possible accompanying documents to the following address: Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom), Transport licences, PO Box 320, FI-00059 TRAFICOM, Finland.

The application fee of EUR 340 will be charged after the decision has been made. The fee will not be returned even if the licence is denied or the application is cancelled.
