Digital driver card applications made easier online

April 21, 2026 at 11:03

You can now apply for a digital tachograph driver card more affordably and conveniently directly through Traficom’s My e-Services portal. The new electronic service will save professional drivers both time and money.

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom have launched a new electronic service for professional drivers in April. The aim of the reform is to make everyday life smoother for drivers and reduce the need to visit service points.

“This is a significant improvement in the accessibility of the service, which also reduces transaction costs for professionals. Extending the My e-Services portal to tachograph cards makes the application process quick and straightforward for our customers,” says Harri Parkkinen, specialist in professional transport services at Traficom.

A digital tachograph is mandatory in all lorries and buses registered after 1 May 2006 that fall within the scope of the EU Regulation on driving times and rest periods.

Applying online is the most affordable option

Previously, a driver card could only be applied for by visiting an Ajovarma service point in person. Ajovarma operates as Traficom’s service provider. Following the reform, the card application can also be submitted through Traficom’s My e-Services.

Applying online is cheaper: in the My e-Services portal, a driver card costs EUR 99, while at a customer service point it costs EUR 119.

“In some cases, however, a personal visit to an Ajovarma service point is still required,” says Harri Parkkinen.

If supporting documents are needed for the application, or if the old driver card must be returned in connection with the application, you must always visit Ajovarma in person

“The My e-Services portal guides users through the application process and will indicate if a personal visit is required.”

How to apply for a tachograph card online:

  • Log in to Traficom’s My e-Services portal using secure Suomi.fi identification (for example, online banking credentials or a mobile certificate).
  • Pay for the card order in the electronic service via online banking, with a payment card or as a mobile payment.
  • The completed card will be delivered according to your choice either by post or for collection at a service point.
