New email address for the market surveillance of pleasure craft

April 23, 2026 at 11:55

We are introducing a dedicated email address for the market surveillance of pleasure craft. From 15 April 2026 onwards, Traficom’s market surveillance specialists can be contacted at huviveneet.markkinavalvonta@traficom.fi.

Previously, stakeholders have contacted us through several different channels regarding the market surveillance of pleasure craft. This has resulted in fragmented information, as various shared mailboxes, personal contact details and other communication channels have been in use.

We will now centralise all enquiries related to the market surveillance of pleasure craft to a single email address. With this new shared mailbox, we hope it will be easier to reach us in future.

Our customers and stakeholders include companies operating in the boating sector, other market surveillance authorities in Finland and across the EU, marine and maritime supervisory authorities, boating industry stakeholders, and other parties wishing to contact us collectively to ensure that information is properly received.

Market surveillance of pleasure craft serves a wide range of operators

Legislation on pleasure craft is primarily intended for boat manufacturers and the boating industry. As economic operators (manufacturers), they inform consumers that their products comply with the applicable safety and environmental requirements by affixing the CE marking to their products.

Market surveillance of pleasure craft covers economic operators such as manufacturers, distributors and importers, including private individuals importing products. In practice, we carry out inspections at manufacturers’ and distributors’ premises and examine products and their documentation on site.

We also assign manufacturer identification codes to boat manufacturers before they may begin production. We assist Finnish Customs in assessing the compliance of boats imported from third countries. In addition, we provide guidance and information on applicable legislation and its interpretation to those who require it.

A person may modify a watercraft, whether previously within or outside the scope of the Act on pleasure craft, or change its intended use so that the product becomes subject to the legislation. In such cases, we advise customers on how to proceed and refer them to the appropriate authorities.
