The introduction of the Location Data Service by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has been suspended for the time being.
Due to the overall security situation, Traficom will reassess the implementation of the current Location Data Service and alternative solutions in cooperation with other security authorities. The aim is to find a solution as soon as possible.
In Traficom’s Regulation 71, network operators are obliged to submit their network information to the Location Data Service by 31 December 2024. However, for the time being, operators should not submit their network information to the service. Traficom will update the date of the submission of the information and, if necessary, the rest of the content of the Regulation once the investigation has been completed.
The need for a location data service has not gone away, as at present, location information is scattered, of low quality and available in different formats. The situation causes, among other things, excavation damage and telecommunications outages in critical services. With the current operating model, comprehensive, up-to-date or accurate network information is poorly available.
We will inform you of the next steps of the Location Data Service as soon as possible.
