Yesterday, on 27 February 2025, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) signed an air transport arrangement that enables direct flights between Finland and Taiwan. The arrangement was established between Traficom, in the role of Finland’s civil aviation authority, and Taiwan’s Civil Aviation Administration.
Under this arrangement, one or more airlines may be nominated to operate flights between the two regions. The number of weekly flights, for both passenger and cargo traffic, is limited to 14, effectively allowing for daily flights. There are no restrictions on the cities of destination or aircraft types. Flights may also be operated via intermediate points or as connecting flights beyond the areas of the parties.
Similar air transport arrangements already exist between Taiwan and several other European Union member states. Currently, direct flights from Taipei are available to the Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, and the Czech Republic, but not yet to the Nordic countries.
