Links to documents and information on the conformity of radio equipment
Information on notified bodies can be found in the European Commission’s NANDO database. To be allowed to assess the conformity of radio equipment, notified bodies must be approved for the scope of application of the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU. We recommend that you check this in advance in the NANDO database.
A list of harmonised standards published in the Official Journal is available on the European Commission website.
Traficom does not grant prior approvals for radio equipment. Instead, the manufacturer is responsible for ensuring the conformity of the equipment. Traficom’s market surveillance covers equipment that have already been placed on the market.
The Radio Equipment Directive lays down requirements for radio equipment with respect to safety, electromagnetic compatibility and supporting the efficient and interference-free use of radio spectrum, for example. The technical conformity of radio equipment must be ensured in accordance with Article 17 of the Radio Equipment Directive. With respect to the requirements on the use of radio spectrum, as laid down in Article 3(2) of the RED, for example, manufacturers can assess conformity by applying a harmonised radio standard published in the Official Journal of the European Union or have a notified body carry out the conformity assessment.
The harmonised radio standards that are currently in force and have been published in the Official Journal can be found on the European Commission website. ETSI standards can be found on the ETSI website. Please note that all standards published on the ETSI website may not necessarily have been published in the Official Journal.
More information on radio frequencies and their use is available on the section Frequency planning and use
The Frequency Allocation Table included in an annex to the Traficom Radio Frequency Regulation 4 includes detailed information on the use of frequencies in Finland.
The EFIS database includes information on spectrum use in each EU country. However, it is important to verify the information from the website of the spectrum management authority of the country in question. Manufacturers can use the EFIS system to search for frequency information concerning all EU countries before placing radio equipment on the market. This helps them assess whether the equipment in question can be used in each country and what conditions apply to the use.
The new requirements do not apply to all radio equipment, only certain specified groups of equipment. More information on the topic can be found:
