The regulation is believed to make freight traffic and logistics more efficient.

The transition to electronic processing of information is also believed to make the exchange of information between businesses easier.

The use of electronic means to exchange regulatory information can reduce administrative costs for economic operators and enhance the efficiency of competent authorities.

Finland is involved in the eFTI4EU project piloting the requirements of the eFTI regulation together with businesses and other Member States.

Operators may continue to provide competent authorities with freighting documents in paper format or in some other electronic form accepted nationally.

Fintraffic Oy is responsible for the implementation of the national eFTI gate. Fintraffic will also be the administrator of the eFTI gate service.

An economic operator shall manage its eFTI platform itself or purchase the platform or service from an eFTI service provider.

The economic operator or the eFTI service provider shall be responsible for the functionality of the platform.

An eFTI platform provides competent authorities with freight transport information on request in accordance with the common data model.
