How Can You Prepare?
Start by identifying how transport information is handled in your company to-day. Reviewing your current processes, systems, and collaboration networks will help you evaluate what changes eFTI requires and where digitalization can de-liver the greatest benefits.
Assess the impact of eFTI on your operations by determining:
- where you operate transport services (domestic/international)
- what transport data you produce and in which systems
- how much manual work is involved in current processes
- what role you have in the transport chain
The more fragmented your information management is, the greater the benefits of digitalization.
Choose an Implementation Approach
A. You can develop electronic transport data management within your current information system. Open-source solutions are also being developed.
+ Better control of transport data
- Development and certification costs
B. Purchase eFTI as a Service. We will publish a list of certified eFTI service providers at a later stage.
+ Faster implementation
-Dependency on the service provider
Questions to Support Your Assessment:
- What development capabilities does your current system have in terms of resources, development environments, and testing environments?
- Are integrations needed with, for example, financial management or transport management systems?
- What information management process requirements does your company or your partners have?
- What should partners do to ensure that the benefits are shared across the entire transport chain?
Learn About the Functionalities and Requirements
If you develop eFTI functionality within your own information system, you must apply for certification from a conformity assessment body. A certified eFTI-compliant information system is called an eFTI platform.
The eFTI platform provides transport information when requested by authorities. An eFTI platform must:
- manage legally required transport information
- support the editing and archiving of data
- produce both machine-readable and human-readable versions of transport information
- respond to requests for information from authorities
- provide logging and traceability (audit trail)
- ensure secure interface connections
The European Commission has published functional specifications for the development of eFTI platforms. These specifications provide more detailed information on platform functionalities. Access to the service requires the creation of an EU Login account. The website provides instructions on how to create an account.
Start Development and Testing
The Fintraffic Developer Portal provides the information required to connect to the eFTI network. The service is intended for developers and future eFTI platform operators.
Proceed to development and testing: efti.fintraffic.fi Ulkoinen verkkopalvelu.
The service includes:
- technical specifications
- a testing environment
- API/interface descriptions
- integration guidance
Participate and Network
Take advantage of networks and existing solutions. You will gain up-to-date information, learn from the experiences of others, and avoid unnecessary development work.
Fintraffic organizes public and open forums within the Transport Data Ecosystem, featuring several open working groups. Topics vary by group. The progress of the eFTI initiative is regularly discussed in the “Logistics Data and Interfaces” working group alongside other logistics digitalization topics.
EU Member States and companies cooperate on the implementation of eFTI across Europe. Three eFTI projects regularly organize events, webinars, and pilot activities where practical lessons and experiences are shared. You can follow their websites, newsletters, and social media channels for updates.
