Classification societies
On this page, you can find which classification societies Traficom has authorised, what tasks they are permitted to perform, and how responsibilities are divided between Traficom and the classification societies.
Authorized classification societies
Traficom has concluded agreements on the delegation of statutory certification services for ships with the following classification societies:
- American Bureau of Shipping
- Bureau Veritas
- Lloyd's Register
- RINA Services S.p.A.
- Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK)
- DNV
- Korean Register
The agreements are identical.
Degree of authorization
The classification societies may carry out surveys of ships registered in Finland in accordance with the SOLAS, MARPOL and Load Line Conventions and issue the relevant safety certificates. They may also approve all necessary ship documents and carry out ISM- and ISPS- audits.
According to the agreement the classification societies are also authorized to survey ships not covered by the international conventions. In such cases, Traficom's consent is required.
