Pilot training

Pilot license will give you right to act as a crewmember in aircraft. Ratings which are included in pilot license in turn specify which aircraft and in which conditions aircraft can be flown.

In general, only organizations approved by Traficom, offer training for a licence or a rating. Usually flying clubs provide general aviation training while commercial training organizations provide training that targets professional licences.

There are approximately 70 approved or declared organizations which can provide training for pilot licences.

Are you considering a pilot licence.

After deciding to attain a pilot licence, you should anticipate following things before arranging your training.

  • Check that the organization has a valid approval of training for the licence you seek
  • Negotiate where and when training is conducted
  • Negotiate payments for the training
  • Review the neccesary aviation insurances and their specific terms for training.
  • Consider taking an additional accident insurance
  • Review the training contract carefully before signing of it.
  • Note that a person under the age of 18 cannot sign the contract, in which case the guardian's signature is required

Please note that every organization has their own way of doing things and their terms may be more limiting that the regulations allow

Flight and theory training can generally only be provided by organizations approved by Traficom. Traficom oversees that the personnel, facilities and aircraft of training organizations meet the legal requirements.

In addition, Traficom will ensure that the training is conducted at an aerodrome suitable for the training and in a safe manner and that the aircraft have the additional insurance required for basic training. Training programs shall require the approval of, and flight instructors must hold, the necessary privileges.
