Order a new driving licence

Order a new driving licence if your licence has been lost or damaged, or if your personal details have changed. Check this page to see if you can order a new driving licence online.

Because the new driving licence will replace the previous one, it is also called a duplicate driving licence.

If your driving licence is about to expire, you cannot order a new driving licence using the instructions on this page. Instead, you need to renew your driving licence.

Use the service for ordering a new driving licence if

  • your driving licence is lost
  • your driving licence is in poor condition or damaged
  • your driving licence has been stolen
  • you wish to replace your old driving licence with a new one
  • your name has changed
  • you can no longer be recognised from the photograph on your previous driving licence
  • the police has revised your driving rights (for example added or removed special condition 01 concerning glasses)

You cannot use the service if you are ordering a new driving licence because your personal identity code has changed. In this case, visit a service point.

When can I order a new driving licence online?

You can use the e-services to order a new driving licence if

  • you do not have a driving licence issued in another EU or EEA country. By using the service, you give permission for this information to be checked in other EU and EEA countries.
  • your permanent address is in mainland Finland. Your driving licence will be sent to your address in Finland as stated in the population information system.
  • you have not been banned from driving.
  • you have previously submitted your photo and signature to an authority, for example when applying for a passport.
  • you can log into the service using online banking codes or a mobile certificate.

Follow the steps below

  1. Step 1

    Log into the service and fill in the application electronically

    Order a new driving licence in Traficom's My e-Services. You can find the application form in the service under the heading Driving licence.

    When you log in to the service, you will see your photo and signature from the police passport photo register. When you apply for a driving licence online, you agree to use the photo and signature displayed in the service on your driving licence.

    If your photo and signature are not available in the system, or if you do not want to use either of them, you cannot order a new driving licence online.

  2. Step 2

    Pay for the driving licence application

    Pay for the order in the service. Once you have paid, your order will be sent for processing.

  3. Step 3

    Your driving licence will arrive by post

    You will receive your driving licence by post in approximately two weeks.

The service uses automated decision-making.

Visiting a service point

If you cannot use the online service, you can visit a service point. You will receive a driving licence application form to fill in at the service point.

What should I do if the driving licence that I have ordered is not delivered?

If your driving licence has not arrived within three weeks of placing your order, contact our customer service.
