Ultralight pilot licence

With an ultralight pilot licence (UPL), you can fly solo with an ultralight aeroplane.

The UPL can also include the right to carry passengers, enabling you to fly with your friends, for example. You can share the costs with your passengers but cannot charge them for the flight.

How to obtain an ultralight pilot licence:

  1. Step 1

    Age requirement

    When you apply for the licence at Traficom, you must be at least 17 years old.

  2. Step 2

    Training

    UPL training includes theoretical and flight instruction.

  3. Step 3

    Medical certificate

    To start flying solo, you are required to have a medical certificate.

  4. Step 4

    Skill test

    You can take the skill test after you have completed the theoretical knowledge instruction and flight instruction.
