Give account number for tax refunds

You can receive a refund of vehicle tax if your vehicle has changed ownership or been decommissioned, for example.

Excess vehicle tax is reimbursed through the next tax bill unless you apply for a refund.

A refund can be issued if:

  • the car is decommissioned or removed from the register
  • the taxpayer changes
  • the information marked on the register changes such that the vehicle becomes exempt from tax or the amount of tax due is reduced
  • the taxpayer is exempt from vehicle tax

You can save an account number in My e-Services, in which case any future tax refunds will be automatically paid to the account 12 months of the creation of the refund, unless the refund has already been allocated to one of your vehicles.

If you have not yet submitted an account number or would like to receive the refund faster, please do the following:

Follow the steps below

  • Step 1

    Log in to My e-Services

After authentication, choose your user role: personal services or acting on behalf of your company/organisation.

  • Step 2

Submit your account number under Vehicle taxation

Select Services and then Give account number for tax refunds. Enter the account number in IBAN format (the BIC code is automatically entered).

If you have already submitted an account number and want the refund within 1–3 business days, go to the end of the notification (use the Next button) and accept the notification.

  • Step 3

You have successfully saved your account number when you reach the confirmation view

After successfully saving your account number, you can print out or save the PDF confirmation.

The refund will appear in your account within 1–3 days if there was refundable vehicle tax at the time of saving the account number.

Any future refunds will be automatically paid to the provided account 12 months after the creation of the refund. If there is no refundable tax, the refund has been automatically allocated to one of your vehicles or the refund has already been paid.

If you are unable to apply for a refund in My e-Services, you can apply for it with a printed form.

Fill in, print out and sign the refund application (pdf/Finnish).
